Seedlings For Sale

We know how much you love our produce and we would love for you to have a bit of Heirloom Gardens in your garden!

We have planted our 3/4 acre of farmland (yes, 3/4 acre … in the city) for the season and have a few seedlings left over; so we will be selling our extra organic, heirloom vegetable seedlings (tomato, pepper, eggplant, summer squash, winter squash, and cucumber) at the Highland Farmers’ Market starting this Saturday.

Our all heirloom, organic (not certified, but no funny stuff on them) seedling prices are $4.00 for the regular sized seedlings and $6.00 for the large sized seedlings.  We even have our ‘Mystery Heirlooms’ selling for $3.00 each.  (It’s tough to always keep those hundreds of seedlings marked correctly, and yes, I said hundreds…these below, oh, that’s just a few!)

Why yes, those ARE all tomato plants!

Your garden could be coming up red, yellow, green, purple and white this summer! And those are just our tomatoes!!

It’s definitely not too late to put plants in the ground, and we think we’re going to have a looong summer and lots of time to enjoy the harvest!  And if aren’t sure how to plant or care for your seedlings just chat with our farmers… they would love to share their tips and tricks!

We’ll be selling heirloom tomatoes (full-size, cherry, and canning varieties; colors include red, pink, yellow, green, purple, white, and multi-color), peppers (both sweet and hot), cucumbers, summer squash, and winter squash (including pumpkins!). In future weeks we’ll also be bringing a wide selection of herb seedlings to the market.

These babies aren't ready for market quite yet ... we will keep them and grow them big and strong and then sell them to you!

We’ll have the seedlings for the first couple of Saturdays (at least) in June (but don’t wait too long the good one’s always go first … you know who you are Green Zebras!) And later this summer we will also be selling herb seedlings regularly so you can grow that container garden you have been talking about for years!

Stop by this weekend and bring some Heirloom Gardens seedlings home with you.

Road Trip Without Ever Leaving Home

Want to take a trip but unable to get out of town?  As an urban homesteader it can be as easy as opening your back door.

“Escape, adventure… There’s no denying that the occasional road trip is rejuvenating. It is liberating to “leave it all behind” and explore new places; to feel a sense of separation from the responsibilities of your daily life.  But what about the times you have to stay planted at home? …”

Pick your copy of the June edition of Mary Janes Farm magazine to read more of Sundari’s article about the joys of getting away from it all in your backyard.

You can purchase MaryJanes Farm magazine at your local bookseller or click here to get a subscription.

How To Have A Personal Farmer

It’s easy – just join the Heirloom Gardens NSA and you will get to know the hard working team of farmers growing your produce for the summer.   Click here to sign up for some of the best local produce Denver has to offer!

Our season starts Thursday, June 7th and continues into October!  That’s right, fresh, organic local produce all summer long.

What’s a CSA / NSA?

CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) or NSA (Neighborhood Supported Agriculture) allows members to support farmers by agreeing to share in the risks and rewards of food production. The Heirloom Gardens farmers and volunteers will utilize organic, biointensive and sustainable growing methods to produce a wide variety of crops for the community. In a well-functioning NSA, with Mother Nature’s cooperation, shareholders can expect to receive more than their money’s worth of fresh vegetables and herbs throughout the growing season.

What kinds of things can I expect with my CSA share?

Click here for a listing of what we planted this season.  Weekly shares vary with Mother Nature’s temperament but here are some sample weekly shares based on last year’s harvests:

What do I do with all that good food?

Not only is Heirloom Gardens made up of people who love to grow food; it is also full of people who like to cook food.  Our members will get weekly recipes on how to showcase the week’s bounty.  You can check out our Facebook page for some wonderful food discussions, recipes and it’s where we share ideas from our members and our friends from the Highlands Farmers Market.

Where does all the food come from?

Heirloom Gardens is a multi-plot urban farm located in Northwest Denver.  This season we have over 30,000 square feet of donated land.  NSA members are welcome to make an appointment to come by and visit the garden sites anytime. They are also welcome to join our volunteers in the different farming activities – including seed starting, transplanting, fertilizing, weeding, and harvesting. Click here if you would like to volunteer.
